2024-2025 Application for exemptions - Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Exemptions

If you have already taken a higher education programme elsewhere and obtained credit certificates or qualifications, you are eligible to apply for exemptions.

Applying for exemptions involves submitting evidence to prove that you have already mastered the competences of one or more programme components. It is up to you, the student, to provide appropriate evidence.

Being exempted from one or more programme components means that you no longer need to pass the exam(s) for this/these component(s) in order to obtain your diploma/certificate. If you are exempt from a programme component, you will not receive a grade or a credit certificate for that component. If you receive exemptions worth more than half of the credits for your programme, you will not be given a degree classification.

Preparing your application

Submit your application through this online form. Remember to attach the required documents.
Your application should include:
• the completed online form
• a copy of any diploma(s) demonstrating relevant prior learning
• a copy of diploma supplements demonstrating relevant prior learning
• the official course description(s) for relevant prior learning, which will be used to assess your application for exemption.

Keep this information to hand when filling in the online form.

Principles

• You can only submit one application per programme per academic year. Think carefully about which exemptions you wish to obtain. Read the course descriptions for your future programme carefully and decide whether any courses you have already taken could be equivalent to components in the new programme.
Note: The application form allows you to apply for eight exemptions. You can only submit a second application if you wish to apply for exemptions for more than eight programme components. Keep in mind: This second application must be submitted on the same day. Applications submitted later will not be taken into account.
• No partial exemptions are granted.
• To have your application submitted, you must complete it fully and submit it before the deadline. Information that is submitted later (e.g. credit certificates that were not received on time) will not be taken into account.
